Those are the words of Hans-Ullrich Schneider, CEO of the municipal utilities Hilden [Stadtwerke Hilden] about the company’s expectations of itself. Electricity, gas and water are the areas in which Hilden Municipal Utilities are already the central provider for municipal infrastructures. Building a fiber optic network was the obvious next step. As an entry into the telecommunications field, the construction of a backbone route through the city had been made at the beginning. However, this did not improve the general situation for high speed internet in Hilden. To achieve this, the foundation of a dedicated business sector and the employment of the right strategy was required.
